In February 1964, some 30 families, comprising of 76 members, me and determined it was the will of the Lord to form a church near Sanlando Springs. On Mother's Day 1964, ground was broken and construction was soon underway. On August 23, 1964, the first service was held in the new building. On September 20, 7964, 52 members gathered to vote and accept the constitution, by-laws, articles of faith, and call Lewis D. Haines as the first Pastor.
In May of 1976 Rev. Paul E. Murphy, Jr was called as the new Pastor. Soon after his coming to the church as Pastor, Paul showed leadership in several important areas. Deacons were elected so that the Pastor had the support he need to help him and the church members out. The church membership at this time was around 100.
On September 30, 1978, the church had a total membership of 282. In March of 1979, groundbreaking for a new 550 seat Worship Center. Pastor Paul Murphy dedicated the new sanctuary in January 1980.
Pastor Paul Murphy resigned August 10, 1980, to return to seminary. Rev Donald A. Taylor was called as pastor in February 1981, and Wayne Hundley was called as Minister of Music/Education in October 1981.
Throughout the history of First Baptist Church of Sanlando Springs we had changes in staff and growth of the church. There were also many upgrades that were made to the property.
Christmas night 2000 brought about one of the greatest challenges ever faced the church. At about 7:30pm. church staff were notified that "C" Building was on fire. An over heated thermometer in C3 caused an electrical fire. Most of the contents from the smoke and fire were lost. But one thing did survive, was a children's bible that was close to the area where the fire began. It is framed and, in the office, today. The church formed a committee to begin the rebuilding of "C" Building. In October of 2003, we began moving back into "C" Building.
In 2014 a new logo was unveiled. The new sing was installed on S.R. 434 and on the marquee sign on property. As years pasted the name changed to a DBA/The Church of the Springs along with a new logo. In 2025 we changed the logo again to our permanent logo on S.R. 434 and soon the marquee sign will have the same logo as well.
This church has had many changes some good and some sad, but we have remained faithful to serving God.
